Services

Our services move foundations from early clarity to full operational structure and readiness—shaping mission and values, establishing grant administration frameworks, and supporting the internal and public-facing systems required for effective, compliant grantmaking.

Planning Consideration – In many cases, professional fees related to foundation operations and grantmaking infrastructure may be eligible to count towards a foundation’s 5% annual minimum distribution requirement. Foundations should confirm eligibility with their tax or legal advisor.

Our Four-Phase Process

Philanthropy Launch Lab works through a four-phase process designed to meet foundations where they are—whether they are clarifying early direction or preparing to operate as a transparent, public-facing grantmaking entity.

Foundations may engage in one or multiple phases depending on what has already been established. Each phase builds toward a foundation that operates with clarity, consistency, and trust.

This phase establishes—or strengthens—the clarity that anchors all grantmaking and operational decisions.

For foundations at an early stage, we support the development or refinement of mission, vision, values, philanthropic direction, and giving priorities. For those with existing language, we assess alignment and readiness through a practical, operational lens.

This work ensures philanthropic intent is clearly defined and positioned to guide grantmaking, communication, and internal decision-making.

In this phase, clarity is translated into structure.

We help foundations design the operational infrastructure that supports effective grantmaking, including internal processes, grant cycle design, and administrative frameworks. This work often includes guidance related to grant management practices, operational policies, and the systems required to administer grants consistently and responsibly.

Public-facing elements—such as website content, messaging, and online grant application structure—are developed in alignment with these internal systems, ensuring clarity for both the foundation and nonprofit partners.

All materials are developed specifically for each foundation and designed to be edited, refined, and used in practice—not as off-the-shelf templates.

The focus is on building infrastructure that is right-sized, intentional, and prepared to support ongoing operations and compliance.

Once infrastructure is in place, foundations are ready to engage publicly and activate grantmaking.

In this phase, we support foundations as they prepare to launch or expand their public presence and begin accepting and reviewing grant applications. This includes guidance on external communications, grantmaking materials, review tools, and compliance-related documentation that promote transparency, consistency, and professionalism.

The result is a foundation that feels credible, accessible, and prepared to engage thoughtfully with the nonprofit community.

As foundations grow, operational and grantmaking responsibilities often require dedicated staffing.

In this phase, we support foundations in assessing staffing needs and organizational readiness. This may include role definition, job description recommendations, competency considerations, onboard planning, and early performance frameworks.

We also provide draft internal documentation—such as employee handbooks and operational guidance—to support sustainable team growth, in coordination with professional advisors.
